A chat with vhell from Pandemic

ImageHe's the coach of the most successful World of Warcraft team in the world, SK Gaming sits down with vhell from Pandemic for a chat about his team and various arena PvP topics.

You're the coach of Pandemic, but I remember that you were actually playing in the team in the start, and since that you've played in lots of different teams in bg9. Would you rather be a player or do you play to make your coaching better?
Pandemic-vhell: I play when I have time for fun, work always seems to be getting the best of me though. I keep up with Arena so I can get a feel for the strats that many different teams use, this is why I like switching what team I play on all the time. I'm glad that playing a Priest has allowed me to play in many different group setups.

With what people and what setups are you playing right now?
Pandemic-vhell: I haven't been active lately in the arena, so I've been playing with Cynika and Capstone in 3's on a RMP setup

5vs5 tournaments are being held in both Cyclone and Bloodlust, but Blizzard just announced that they will be hosting an official tournament in 3vs3, which one do you prefer?
"I think as a competitive environment 3's is just easier."
Pandemic-vhell: I personally enjoy 5's more as a Priest, but I think as a competitive environment 3's is just easier. Less people to fly around (especially if Blizzard is footing the bill) means more chances of events springing up. Only having to fly 3 players around will make it easier for non-sponsored teams to show up.

In the bloodlust tournament Reznap is playing for fotb, Nitrana with fnatic and Sck with Slackers. Howcome we don't get to see the Pandemic team playing?
Pandemic-vhell: As many people in the eSports community knows, the winter is normally an off-season. Members of the team have been playing on multiple teams to just have a good time, since there were no announced tournaments up until this point.
Pandemic-vhell: Don't worry though, we'll be back and playing together for the more competitive tournaments.

So Pandemic doesnt settle with the glory anymore? ;)
Pandemic-vhell: Practicing for tournaments takes a lot of time, I personally would sit and listen to Kint/Malice/Nitrana practice 3's for hours each night. The guys are just taking some time off at the moment.

What are your plans for the upcoming 3vs3 tournament, 2 online qualifiers has been announced and each team can have 5 players on the roster but only 3 gets to go to the playoffs. Will you try to qualify with more than one team?
Pandemic-vhell: Can't give away all of our secrets :) One of the advantages our team has over some others, is that our players can play multiple classes. A lot of them have been playing multiple classes lately, which is why you don't see a single team being run in 3's/5's. I think that this investment in the long run will provide the team with a better foothold in the upcoming tournaments.
"Our team prides ourselves on running the same group of players"

So you don't have any plans to add anymore players, maybe a druid or warlock?
Pandemic-vhell: We run into problems with player caps, and at least 3 of our current players can play Warlocks. Druids are on the way. Our team prides ourselves on running the same group of players, not swapping out a player for another when a new fotm pops up.

What setups do you think is the current "fotm" in 3vs3?
Pandemic-vhell: Haha, well. I really like Rogue/Mage/Priest in 3's personally, but any comp with a druid is going to be strong. There's a few solid fotm's at the moment other than RMP such as warrior/warlock/druid, double healer warrior, but those need a druid to work. Also, I think we'll have to see how 2.4 plays out to see if drain teams will still be viable. There's a lot of changes coming to arena, and it's hard to say exactly what will end up being the best.

Speaking of 2.4, what's your view on the druid/manadrain/drinking nerfs?
Pandemic-vhell: Honestly, it's such a huge change that I think we won't see the reprocussions of it on PTR. We'll see the new fotm's after the patch hits, since it takes a while for strategy to emerge after a nerfing/buffing.

But do you agree with the nerfs?
Pandemic-vhell: I've always thought mana burn is too powerful.

The "droodrog" setup has been very popular in Europe for a while now, and before SK brought it to the top of bg9, lots of people were trashtalking it, do you think it's a solid setup that's here to stay?
"if Blizzard touches Cheat Death at all, the group might have problems."

Pandemic-vhell: I'm never one to trash a setup without playing on/against it. I tried it out with a few players, it's a blast to play as a Priest. It definitely has it's advantages, but I'm afraid a small tuning might hurt the group balance. It puts a lot of pressure on the rogue staying alive, so if Blizzard touches Cheat Death at all, the group might have problems.

Do you have any predictions for the Bloodlust 5vs5 tournament?
Pandemic-vhell: There's so much new talent, it's hard to tell. I'd like to see Slackers come back personally, I think Swarm is a great Priest.

Ever since Cyclone became the "bg9 of Europe", flame wars has been going on about which battlegroup is the best. Do you think the teams/players in USA is better or do you think they have just gotten more attention because of WSVG?
ImagePandemic-vhell: There's a lot of 'backseat drivers' in both bg's. The top players know that it's two totally different play styles, and you can't compare it at all. The other players that are making the noise aren't really the ones that matter. It's the same as the players claiming that bg9 was the best and the rest of the bg's are trash.

How would you discribe the difference between the US/EU playstyles?
Pandemic-vhell: There's no defined playstyle difference, it's just different metagames evolve, since it's in a closed environment.

Allright well I guess that's it then, thanks for your time and good luck with your team! Any last comments or shoutouts?
Pandemic-vhell: Thanks always to our sponsors, Dell Unleashed and Plantronics, they're the reason we've been able to go to so many amazing places this year.
