The GGL will be holding the Digital Games during the first four days of the 2008 Olympic Games in Shanghai.

Preparations for the tournament began many months ago. The event's announcement was pushed back in time because GGL was working on getting permission to use the Olympic rings to promote the event. GGL's CEO Ted Owen and President Brett W. Hawkins have traveled to Switzerland many times last year in order to make it happen.

The format of the tournament will be similar to the World Cyber Games, where the best players from every country win the right to participate in a global final. No details about the official games and qualifiers were revealed, but according to the CIG website we may expect RTS and FPS games.

Considering CIG's record of holding events for Warcraft 3 and the immense popularity of the game in China it is safe to assume that WC3 will be a part of the tournament.
