G7 February update

ImageFollowing a meeting of the G7 representatives there are to be some changes in its communication to the community it endeavours to represent.

The G7 whose mission is to "promote and improve professional Electronic Sports in all its aspects and safeguard the general interests of the member teams" held a meeting earlier this month in Cologne, Germany.

The meeting was held at the SK offices and saw representatives from Fnatic, Mibr, MouseSports, SK, MYM, wNv & PGS gather for three days "to strategize, reorganize, and suit up for another exciting year."

The G7's activity in E-Sports has been mostly behind the scenes aside from the recent release of a player contract template and the decision to not go to the CPL Winter event. However the minutes from this meeting point towards a more open and visible role within the community for the G7 teams in 2008.

The "first wave" of projects for 2008 in brief include:

* Improving the g7teams.com website
* Issuing regular "wrap ups"
* Increase frequency of interviews with media agencies
* Create a global calendar for all events (to avoid conflicting events)
* Improve the ZoneRank ranking system "to ensure their rankings take into account from relevant tournaments, are calculated fairly, and their ranking mechanism is clearly communicated to the community"
* Introduce an affiliates program "to involve and represent the interests of other, non-G7 teams".
* Explore possibility of a G7 sanction event with the top teams and players from ZoneRank.
* Evaluate potential new G7 candidate teams.
* Review rules "of all major leagues and tournaments and offer suggestions to improve and tighten up their rule set to minimize mid-season rule disputes"
* Publish the terms and conditions of each major league and tournament

The first wave clearly shows the G7 wanted to tackle immediate short term goals such as the efficacity of the ZoneRank ranking system, a global calendar as well as a review of the rules of major competitions which could avoid future disputes such as a the "duck jump" that plagued the WCG.

The G7 has also nominated the spokespeople for the first half of 2008, Alex “TheSlaSH” Muller of SK Gaming and Craig “Torbull” Levine, the former founder and manager of Team 3D and current co-owner of E-Sports Entertainment.
