The shirts from this picture were invited to defend the the Electronic Sports World Cup title in Counter-Strike.The ESWC traditionally invites their champions from the previous edition to participate in the current one without the need to qualify. But the winners of the 2007 ESWC, Filip "NEO" Kubski, Jakub "kuben" Gurczynski, Lukasz "LUq" Wnek, Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas and Mariusz "Loord" Cybulski, will not be invited.
The championship rights go to the organisation and not the players themselves. This means that the team that actually won the ESWC in 2007 could see themselves having to qualify. At the same time, PGS Gaming could send any players they like, for example their female team, to defend their title.
So far, PGS Gaming has been declaring that they would not rebuild a Counter-Strike team. If they decide to go through with the plans, Poland will only be represented by one team at the ESWC finals in San Jose. It is not unlikely that PGS will reconsider - a berth in hand is a very good reason for PGS to pick up a team and for a team to join PGS as well.

zzz... it's normal that the organisation does have the berth, not the players....
As someone says: you cant compare 1v1 and 5v5 games. Its like tennis... If Justine Henin wins a tournament, she gets an invite the next year. However, in FED CUP (national teams compete each other), if a team wins, the team gets the invites, not the player who played in the team.
players get payed to win the titles for the organisation...
players move/die/get hit by a car/retire... the title still belongs to the organisation...
but what is PGS going to do with that spot... as somebody pointed out them sending their two managers and whole news crew to san jose to be placed in a 5 star hotel... heh.. why not?
is it completely moral? not exactly... but who cares...
