A news post on the CAL website claims that several important members of the CPL staff left, were fired or will be fired soon. It also says that the CPL will no longer hold video gaming events. The post was made by Martijn Bloemheuvel, the Cyberathlete Amateur League Warcraft 3 operations manager. He claims that the CPL Commissioner Chris Moncivalles, the Global Tournament Director Michael Allen will be fired and that the IRC manager Thomas Hollingsworth is also gone.
CPL was allegedly going to undergo a buyout by Play'nTrade but CPL President Angel Munoz did not want to move to another part of the U.S. and the deal did not go through.
Bloemheuvel further suggests that this will may be the end of the CPL as a tournament organiser, although CAL was told to "keep doing its thing."
The entire post was on the CAL website but has been removed. Fortunately, GGL Wire's story has got a screenshot.

The CPL is dead. Finally actually dead as a tournament organization, not just "gg cpl == dead"-dead. For those that still care here's the story.
First off, a lot of this can't be verified. I'm sorry but I'm not posting logs or giving sources in order to protect people. Here's what can be verified;
Chris Moncivalles - CPLs League Commissioner, was fired around the 27th of January. He disappeared from the CPL staff page and people started asking questions. A few days later he was added back on the staff page as "Online Store Director". Promise you however, that's just to avoid questions, he's still fired and that's why he hasn't been responding to any of you.
Thomas Hollingsworth - CPLs IRC Manager dropped his tag a few days ago and disappeared off the CPL staff page. At which point we can somewhat assume he's no longer with the CPL anymore either.
Now, Micheal Allen will also be gone at the end of the month, he's the Global Tournament Director and as such his services won't be required by the CPL anymore because of the CPL likely not having any more tournaments after the world tour ends this month.
As it stands, this may not be the last you've heard of "the CPL" but it should be the last you've heard of "the CPL" in regards to gaming tournaments. The CPL may try to become an advisory company of sorts for video game companies. This should largely be read as an excuse to stay involved with Daikatana 2, or Severity, whichever name you find suiting. (Yes Romero, we haven't forgotten or forgiven that abomination of a game you threw at us). Plus they still have 1/2 of the stock of CPL mice to sell!
The CPL has been losing money (obviously) and after a buy-out from Play'nTrade failed because Angel didn't want to relocate, it was practically decided to end the CPL's run.
What this means for CAL is not a whole lot, CALs been told to keep doing its thing, however they might lose partnerships such as hosting which could become rather troublesome. And that's aside from staff that might bail and look for newer, better things. (Don't say CEVO, dealing with Angel is horrible, but dealing with Charlie Plitt is hell on earth).
Now until Angel crawls out and states something, things can change. You never know when some unfortunate company decides to sink money into gaming and runs into the CPL. This post/message was made mostly due to a complete communications break-down. Angel won't talk to anyone anymore about what's going to happen which leaves certain people stuck in limbo.
They can't say anything but they can't do anything either. As it stands the story is largely as I've just told it. I'm expecting this to finally lead to some kind of official response on the situation at hand from Angel.
I've said most of what I care to say, I won't be dealing with people directly contacting me regarding this. If people wish to discuss the matter there's a live online gaming talk show called Faces For Radio which should air tomorrow at 8pm EST and last for about 2 hours.
I'm not sure whether they'll welcome discussion on the subject or not, but if so I'll try to call in and respond to any questions anyone might ask there if the show allows such, please don't contact me otherwise. It's hosted by the same people that produce Epileptic Gaming, information on how to watch can be found at http://epilepticgaming.ggl.com/

Someone must have been upset with it! =P
I lol'd.
"For weeks several staff members have been correcting news posts on the CAL website that were being quietly changed to smear the operations of the CPL and CAL. In addition we had been receiving a huge number of poster comments at the CPL site from a specific IP range in the Netherlands that were vulgar and offensive. Now we believe that these violations may have been perpetrated by Martijn Bloemheuvel. Today someone logged on our system with his ID and illegally used the CAL database to send a false message to all members of CAL.
While this is not the first time in ten years that a rumor like this has been traded in online forums, this is the fist time that someone used our own database to spread it. And while Chris Moncivalles is no longer CPL's Commissioner, both Mike Allen and Thomas Hollingsworth have not been terminated as the e-mail insinuates. Also Chris still has his CPL e-mail account, manages the CPL store and is the commissioner of CAL. Unfortunately, we cannot comment beyond this as this is a legal issue now and our legal counsel will pursue this matter to the full extent of the law.
We will have an announcement soon on a new direction for CPL, but we assure everyone that it's not as ominous as the unauthorized message presumes it to be."
The cs1.6 tournament used to be so great and now its just a memory.
(dedicated to Carmac)
