2007's greats fall out of EM II

ImageThe winners of the biggest tournaments last year have failed to stay in the Extreme Masters II for long enough to see the LAN finals at CeBIT in Hanover. Six teams have already qualified for that stage of the EM and four spots are still up for grabs.

Meet Your Makers, the title defenders and the winners of the 2007 Electronic Sports World Cup, finished group play one spot shy of a place in the additional playoffs. So did the World Cyber Games 2007 champions emuLate who lost their chance to see CeBIT to wooSai in their last game.

A total of ten teams will be playing in the LAN phase of Extreme Masters II. Six are already booking their hotels in Germany. Four of them are the group winners of the tournament's main round and two have qualified as the best non-European teams at the EM Los Angeles tournament.

The remaining four will be the winners of playoff matches between teams that have finished second and third in their groups. Three out of four groups in the main round are finished. The only question mark left is whether it will be Mousesports or mTw.PokerRoom advancing directly to the LAN phase from Group B.

Group winners:
Spirit of Amiga
Mousesports or mTw.PokerRoom
SK Gaming
CMAX.gg (Excello)

EM Los Angeles:
Made in Brazil
eSTRO

Group runners up:
Fnatic
Mousesports or mTw.PokerRoom
Roccat
ALTERNATE aTTaX

Third in their group:
Virtus.pro
atlanteam
Gravitas Gaming
wooSai

At CeBIT, the teams will be put into two groups of five and the top two teams will go on to the knockout stage of the competition.
