ESWC to take place a day after GC2008

It was announced today that the ESWC Grand Final will take place in San Jose, California, on August 25-27. This puts the event only one day after Games Convention in Leipzig.

One of the biggest esports events of the year will be staged as a part of NVISION 2008, a show dedicated to virtual graphics. The reason for the awkward timing is that the dates of both fairs are not flexible.

Games Convention takes place from August 20 to 24 and will be home to the ESL European Nations Cup and NGL One finals. Furthermore, many players and teams will be engaged in various promotions, while some will want to attend the eSports Awards.

The Electronic Sports World Cup is unlucky with regard to schedules. In 2005, CPL Summer was scheduled over the ESWC finals in Paris.

SK Gaming has found out that esports teams will be lobbying for the schedules of the competitions at Games Convention and the ESWC to accommodate the players that want to attend both events.

It is not about what the teams want to do - they also have promotion activities with their sponsors. It is very hard to cancel them though...

There shouldn't be that many affected CS-players. After all there is only 4 CS-teams present at GC (for the ENC-finals). It's more of a problem for the WC-players since it's 4 x 4 teams (ENC + NGL ONE). Don't think anyone will suffer though ^^

sad for ESWC. Not because i'm french and i now see this amazing event far from me, but because i now see this amazing event very close to the CGS and CSS environement.

It's obvious that the reason of this new place is an econimic one. I hope that's not the first step to the CGS:ESWC.

meh, this will be bad for the NGL finals at the GGC. Maybe if they fasten up the NGL finals so they are finished on Saturday, so the players can play at ESWC on Monday.Would still be hard.
Still pretty weird that they hold such a big competition from a Mon-Wed.

I doubt that they will do that. That would be like yielding to the ESWC's bullying tactics (even if it's really unavoidable that they change their date). That would almost be like... hey... diplomatics? Unheard of! International tournament calenders are uncalled for! (or?)
