Spirit of Amiga has won their qualifying group for the Extreme Masters II, leaving Fnatic and Virtus.pro still having to qualify through playoffs. The defending champions, MYM.pl, are out of the tournament.Group A is the first group to finish in the EM II qualifying round. From the first playday, Fnatic looked like they would take first place, so desired because winning a group in the EM II main round means a guaranteed spot in the finals. Teams that finish second will enter playoffs with teams that finish third in their groups for the last EM finals spots.
With their last game, Fnatic let go of the autoberth, as they lost 2-1 to Virtus.pro yesterday, while Spirit of Amiga beat mTw and won the group with a better map win/loss ratio.
The other major favourites of the group, Meet Your Makers (previously PGS Gaming) were fighting internal problems with their old management as well as the Polish Telecom. The last eSports Awards' Team of the Year won two out of five group games and finished in a disappointing fourth place in the group.
The remaining group matches are scheduled for February 6 and 7, and there are no foregone conclusions. Mousesports taking on the Danish mTw.PokerRoom in a match for first place in Group B. In Group D CMAX.gg play ALTERNATE aTTaX will play for first and eMulate will play wooSai to qualify from third place.
In SK's group, Group C, nothing is decided with SK playing their key games in the last two rounds of group play. On Wednesday SK will take on Competo who are currently in second place and on Thursday they will play Gravitas Gaming in a match that should decide on who goes through to the finals without having to play additional games.
