ESWC Masters to be held in Bercy

ImageIt was announced today that the ESWC Masters event in Paris will take place in the Bercy sports hall on July 4-6.

From 2008 onwards, the Electronic Sports World Cup season will not only consist of qualifiers and a grand final event. There will also be international Masters events with cash prizes, through which teams and players will be able to qualify for the ESWC grand final.

The first Masters tournament will take place in the same venue as the 2006 ESWC finals event, the Palais Omnisports of Paris Bercy. It will have application-based invitational tournaments for Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike 1.6 female, Defense of the Ancients, Quake 3, Trackmania Nations and Warcraft 3. Prize money and auto-berths for the ESWC grand final event in California await the best teams and players. The prizing, the size of the tournament and number of berths to be won is still unknown.

The choice of venue for the Masters event is interesting. The Games Services president Matthieu Dallon said in a GGL interview that Bercy proved to be "not the ideal setup." Changes will be made compared to what the 2006 ESWC looked like. Judging by the first images of the setup it seems like the event will be smaller and the public will be allowed to go through the hall's floor like in 2007.
