NGL One has unexpectedly removed Counter-Strike 1.6 from their games, what will replace it though?
A very sad day for the Counter-Strike scene as one of the most prestigious Leagues, the NGL ONE, has announced it will be closing the Counter-Strike 1.6 League.
NGL One has ran a professionally managed league in Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft III The Frozen Throne, it is in its fourth season but they will not have a fifth for Counter-Strike 1.6.
NGL One released this statement on their website
“We are sad to announce that the NGL ONE Counter-Strike League will be discontinued after the running season 2007/2008. More information upon the final event will be announced soon.
There will be no changes regarding the NGL ONE WarCraft III League as well as the NGL TWO which will be continued with the same amount of prize money. Counter-Strike will not be replaced by a different game at this time but other games will be added at a later point. The NGL ONE Administration decided to focus a lot more on strategy and sports games in the future."
As it states Warcraft III The Frozen Throne will continue to be played but Counter-Strike 1.6 will be dropped at the end of the 2007/2008 season.
With the mention of NGL looking into strategy and sports game could it mean FIFA, PES or maybe even DOTA could be picked up?
It will be interesting to see what NGL One decides to do next.

Just one questing: Why did many teams shut its doors? Just look at czech teams for example, maybe they are good enough (faB for example) to challenge top european teams but they wont have that chance to even try it due to lack of sponsors money and so on.. old and well known story, I know.
Imo no company or organisation which supports gamers will not risk its my with new (and maybe promising) cs 1.6 teams, most likely they will put their money into some new game with bright future. Simple as that. (CGS: CS:S, dead or alive, fifa, gotham racing etc., CPL: HALO, NGL - w3 and undisclosed game)
Let's take a look what left for cs 1.6 this year: KODE5, WCG, ESWC - only in that case they wont make an unexpeted move like CPL did. Yeah I almost forget about ESL: Extreme Masters... WOW so cool, the endless support of them will safe the for next 10 years! HELL YEAH! :D :D
who will pick a dead esports game like PES that was just kicked from ESWC??? :/
Why would they pick FIFA? I mean, a good number of the German and European players didn't sign up for the CGS, but, they had basically every good European Counter Strike 1.6 team playing in their league.
It would for me, be a complete step back, and applying the same logic, write CSS out as well. There are very few 'free' teams left, and NGL can't build a CSS league purely based around 4kings and Fnatic.
WoW, DotA, and CoD4 are the most likely candidates.
Just wait and hope your favourite Title gets picked.
Counter-Strike still got enough other Big Tournaments and Leagues, so a potential Death by NGL Heart Attack is very unlikly.
