It's always a pleasure to watch SK-Gaming and MeetYourMakers face each other in the various online tournaments they take part in - and this match made no exception. Both teams had approached the upper bracket semifinal of the Hostile Tactics Gaming League (HTGL) DotA tournament after having made it through a preliminary group stage and the first two playoffs rounds. In the opposite side of the brackets TeamQ was unsuccessful against Xero Skill while in the lower bracket the MYM Prime Defending champion Virtus.pro, after having defeated the same TeamQ, is waiting for the outcome of MeetYourMakers against Serious Gaming.
The history of SK-Gaming against MeetYourMakers is pleasantly dithering, as neither of these teams seems to be able to overcome the other for too long - even though MeetYourMakers holds the upper hand in the DreamHack off-line engagements. The one played tonight was in fact their first official match after DreamHack Winter and SK-Gaming managed to defeat their rivals; a victory that, according to Jonathan 'Loda' Berg's words, the team saw coming. 'We felt really confident about the game before it started' says the team captain, adding that 'throughout the game it went pretty much as we wanted it to.'
SK-Gaming practiced and adopted an unconventional strategy for this match; the DotA competitive scene is not new to uncommon heroes choices being brought by success, may it be a Butcher or a Bounty Hunter, and SK-Gaming showed once more time how the DotA environment is incredibly sensible to unexpected moves: there might even be no need for frequent new map versions as long as unusual moves can renew the meta-game this much. We could say that in a game format where a huge part of the match might be decided during the heroes draft, preparing a different strategy which is able to keep par with the most common lineups and at the same time nullify the risk of having the basic heroes being stolen by the opponents is priceless. 'We have been practicing this strategy a couple of times' comments Jonathan, 'and we felt that we could surprise MYM with the pretty unconventional picks and therefore we weren't afraid of getting out-picked.' In the lineup they used tonight we can see for example a jungle Holy Knight, which after having shined during the 4/4 sentinel combo times almost fell in oblivion due to a couple of nerfs and the game type switching from normal mode to -xl mode.
When asked about a post match statement, Jonathan says that 'it's a really nice feeling to beat MYM since it was a while ago we did so. We proved the community that we are still a force to be reckoned with, and that it pays to look for strategies outside the box.'
In the next days we will see SK-Gaming and MeetYourMakers against each other one more time for a postponed Pick League match, perhaps the swedes will have another surprising strategy to show us.

SK seems very proud beating a better team once in a while O_O
yea thumb me down *careface*
yeh seems like the writer put in so much bias, oh wait, all he did was interview the team captain and discuss how new hero choices keep the competitive dota scene on its toes
get over yourself and don't read it if you're not interested
Being stuck with a 10 year old computer with windows ME, integrated graphiccard, 128 mb ram and a 400 mhz processor isn't fun i tell ya.
Stureplan sucks!! :)
epic fail
No you see, I don't know, I come here for the esports and trolling in which DOTA only fits in the last. Besides, it's not like I'm the only one asking the obvious here. GTFO flowerpower.
and btw, quite bad joke with backstreet boys since the real ones are "back" like 3-4 months ago
1. Which heroes where removed and why (qop, sk, lina? magna?)
2. Why do you have to have Sylabear instead of a "good lane" + solo zeus. Or Is really syla needed for that push strat. To me It semeed a hero with a slow/stun would do some good things (like dazzle, still fits in the push team).
3. In what order did you pick the team and do you think mym was quick to adept with their picks?
4. How is that strat working vs a shaker? Have to be painful or does it just suck? (or was it removed)
Anyway nice done!
Pugna + zeus is an oldschool lane with decryptify + bolt hurts alot. Syllabear's bear got siege attack once he reaches lvl 7 and can autoattack / push towers really well + he got alot of damage with his fast attackspeed. If we would solo zeus we would have to put syllabear with him and that doesn't really make sense.
In the pickorder we really got MyM to believe we were going for a soulkeeper farmstrat we firstpicked zeus nothing special really. They picked potm lesh. Then we picked Terrorblade and pugna. This is the tricky part for all teams to try to get what we are trying to do with our heroes. Now MyM picked na rogue knight and they had no idea we were going for pushstrat so we picked Chen syllabear. If they would get a antipusher like es by now they probably would have 4 melee heroes which wouldn't benefit them at all and they were really supprised by that pick.So they picked shadowfiend with his strong razes + strong ulti which is a good antipush imo but they just didnt have good antipush enough for us to fight in a 5on5.
The number 4 question is more harder though I think hes quite painful to play against if es gets a fast dagger and can interupt even before we're pushing their outter towers. And no it wasnt removed. You'll see in some next games incoming i guess =)
Cheers
