CPL reduces Halo 3 event's prize purse
Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) committee has announced to reduce the prize purse of Winter episode's Halo 3 tournament to $100,000 due to negative publicity.
After X Factor Tournament and The CPL unveiled the respectable $1,000,000 dollars Halo 3 tournament, a behind the scene story however exposes things that affected to the final decision. The $1,000,000 Halo 3 tournament will still take place, but at the CPL Summer event.
A group of posters from the same general IP addresses have been continuously spamming the CPL news comments and our emails with fabricated negative posts about the Halo 3 competition.
Tournament organizations have prevented their signed players from participating in the competition and in some cases have contacted registered players and asked them to cancel.
After ten years of business, the CPL was suddenly accused in the online media of not paying their cash prizes, when in fact the reports clearly show that only about 1% of their payments were delayed when there was some error in the cross-check process or participants did not send the proper documentation.
A tournament organization contacted Microsoft last week to complain about our Halo 3 competition. This initiated an inquiry from Microsoft's legal counsel.
Also one of the key factors was the amount of participating players which is jumping around 200 at this moment. The organization hoped more. "We expected at least 1,000 people to register for the tournament, and only about 200 are currently registered. A respectable number, but still much less than we expected," says Chris Comer, X Factor Tournament's VP of Operations.
"We now fully understand why some organizations have recently retired as event organizers. The competition is a lot more underhanded than we anticipated, but we will not simply go away. We want to hold the largest competitions in the industry and continue to expand our relationship with the gaming community at large."
The players who participate to the Winter episode's Halo 3 tournament, will automatically get a free admission as well as special seeding to Summer event, where the $1,000,000 Halo 3 tournament is about to take place.

I seriously doubt $1,000,000 was ever going to be handed out, it was more than likely a nice little publicity stunt to try and make some headlines.
I know what you're thinking, but yes, the CPL and their associates are just stupid enough to think lying about their prize funds, then cutting them dramatically, would be good for business.
The terrible headlines are going to keep coming as far as I' concerned, this is going to end in tears.
If this event actually goes ahead, which I doubt it will, it's just going to be another notch on CPL's post of shame.
"Lame"
"oh no, rumors on the internet!"
Well, still probably the best thing they can do to get the G7 back.
suddenly?
Poor Angel, we are all on drugs these days.
big surprise that the whole thing is one big scam. CPL has no credibility left, which is a damn shame, since it used to be _the_ tournament :/
Who cares about the percentage? Just pay out the prizemoney within a week or month after the even.t In the previous post I saw lots of gamers claiming that they didnt receive their prizemoney from years ago?
and CPL USA ofcourse, not paying out the people at all.
where are all the douchebags who were saying that a few months ago?
CPL CAN NOT rent their name to anyone that says " hey I need your "name", dont worry I promisse i will pay and i wont mess up your brand... I swear for my mon ".
They cant do that simple coz its their damn GOOD name (used to be) in game.
CPL owe a lot of money to a lot of different players over a lot of different games ... their reputation is dead, as their name ... they should stop doing events and manage their problems, then maybe think about doing another event ...
:Z
so I can see in the future ...
cpl is sux just live w/ it you all know that this was going to happen haha
cpl are a bunch of money digging whores
