Lots of people thought that World of Warcraft as an esport was dead after only a few months of tournaments when the WSVG announced its closure.
Today all WoW PvP fans can take a deep breath as the German super league ESL together with Blizzard announced their addition of a $75,000 invitational WoW 3vs3 tournament at Dreamhack, November 29th - December 2nd.
The tournament consists of eight teams, originally it the top eight teams from the WSVG ranking was invited, but as some of them won't be able to make it they have invited some of the best European teams.
Below you can find a list of the teams that have confirmed their attendance so far.
- Pandemic
- MoB (Attending with 2 teams)
- Insurrection
- SK Gaming
The rules are a little bit different compared to the WSVG, here's a little breakdown of the info we have got so far.
- Max 3 players per team.
(You can swap classes inbetween matches but not players.)
- Blizzard (default) UI.
- WSVG gear plus the season 2 gear.
- 8 team double elimination bracket.
The prizes will be divided between the top 3 finishers;
1. $45,000
2. $22,500
3. $7,500

How do they think they can possinbly win when they're not playing any of the ladders actively and a lot of teams are playing like mad. Well i hope they'll prove me wrong but im guessing they're out on the second round.
Checked the audiance during ESL ENC.
Bad argument.
If there's an idea in your head, it's in solitary confinement. If you're going to say something that ignorant, you could at least fake a stroke. A long period of non-posting would be most welcome on your part. Oh well, as the late Douglas Adams said: "You live and learn. At any rate, you live."
"No don't start throwing numbers.. with 9,5 mil active ACCOUNTS (not players), as since that can never get up to 100 mil DS sales, 200 mil GameBoy sales and 120 mil ps2 sales."
Are you comparing WoW with sales on Consoles?
"During the WCG qualifiers in the Netherlands. Most of the public are console game fans and they ain't coming anymore for Grubby or -insertrandomcsteamfromnl-. Also their statistics showed how populair the console games are in compare with traditional eSport games on the PC. But then again, the casual gamer is harder to reach for a tournament. "
That says more about the scene in NL then the platforms nor eSports on the PC.
"to see what people like to see or not. From experiance I know that DeathMatch games are much more superior for the general public to follow, then a game they will never understand, unless you have played for hours."
Well you can see World of Warcraft as a Team Deathmatch, wc3, starcraft and such needs to be played to understand it aswel..
"Just ask a few random wow players what SK Gaming is, they will shrug their shoulders. As since most of the WoW players wouldn't care a wooden nickle about it."
WoW havent been on much events yet - This will come automatic.
i guess the real games they support now will never let that happen.. then again thats a lot of money for a lot of useless talent.. -_-
^_^
can't play. I bet it's fun when Americans make fun of Europe since we have crap teams playing the tourneys(3v3 of course) and losing to everyone.
GG.
sk-gaming were first in 5v5 tourney in europe but this season they are failing hard same goes for log they are still high rated atleast higher then sk-gaming but i doubt they will reach rank 1 or 2 to reach event realm
Tournaments like this one is what wow needs, and it's a huge step in the right direction. What wow doesn't need though, is another failed tournament, which I predict this to be. Invite tournaments like this one is nice in solid communities like cs, where there are alot of top teams. Those 8 invited teams are probably far from the top, they only have famous names. In order to save wow as the e-sport it should be, a proper tournament is needed with the top teams in the world.
#120 They have not been playing 5v5 for a long time. Obviously the rating of the top teams have gone up since then.
