Championship Gaming Series (CGS) has reported an official announcement of the circumstances that deny The CGS CS: Source players to play the older version Counter-Strike 1.

6 in tournaments.
Some of the CGS franchises have pointed a colossal desire to participate in the Counter-Strike 1.6 tournaments, but now the CGS committee has called a radical decision: to ban the game from the CGS players. "Since we are committed to Source, however, 1.6 tournaments presently are considered to be directly competitive with the league,” says the PR representive of CGS, Aurli Bokovza at GotFrag.
Also Eric "da bears" Stromberg had something to say:
"I think it’s a bit ridiculous to make teams play only in their league. They are putting ownership over the players, which to be honest, I don’t like. I think I can speak for the community on this one and I think everyone thinks the same way that I just pointed out."
"They are trying to make everyone switch to Source and to support Source. More fans equals more money. When teams are playing 1.6, why would fans have to support Source, they can just support 1.6."
Official statement from The CGS:
"Just like every major sports league, CGS is investing a great deal in its athletes and needs a secure relationship with them. Accordingly, we have a policy that CGS players do not participate in any leagues or tournaments which directly compete with any of our official games or partners. This type of arrangement is very common in professional sports."
"In general, we look at other tournaments as an opportunity for CGS players to compete and have fun. As you know, our U.S. players completely dominated LANfest, won at DigitalLife and CEVO, and did very well at WCG. Since we are committed to Source, however, 1.6 tournaments presently are considered to be directly competitive with the league. As for Quakecon, that's an example of a tournament which does not compete with our games, and we support our players attending these types of events."
