It was announced a few months ago, that the Championship Gaming Series (CGS) bought the license to exclusively broadcast Counter-Strike on TV.
This license is for America and Europe so far to broadcast on TV, but excludes Internet streams such as GIGA 2 and now eGames revealed more information about the contract. With the CGS having the exclusive license, it forbids broadcasters such as GIGA 1 which are streaming via satellite to show Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source matches for 2007.
With CGS having the exclusive license, it could cause some problems for the fast growing esport, especially in Europe. Still looking into the future, whole esports gets more professional which also includes to license broadcasting and higher salaries which is a way the CGS is going right now with CS:Source. But the director of GIGA Television, Jens Hilgers, already said they are working on a better solution for 2008.
One of the questions is, how long can or will Counter-Strike 1.6 survive? Europe still fears CS: Source and it will take some time until they adapt to CS:S.

As long as no one spectate the games the sponsors will eventually withdraw, this will test the 1.6 community to the max. It will be interesting to see who wins, the 40 year old geezers with the money or the young gamers who make up the 1.6 gaming scene. People don't seem to realize that in the end it's the fans that dictate what will be successful and not, if no one watch the matches the sponsors will stop throwing money at CGS.
CS 1.6 for ever! If CS:S is the future, I will stop CS! That's it =)
as for #106, if you think and international satellite TV provider doesn't have the money you're wrong. first pay day WILL tell YOU the truth about CGS.
