CPL steps back to Quake 3

Today the Cyberathlete Professional League announced what most people in the community crossed their fingers for: The official 1on1 shooter for the CPL World Tour 2006 will be Quake 3 which will become seven years old in December this year. After the step back from CS:S to Counterstrike 1.6 last year this might be the most popular step backwards in eSport history but it's still welcome by almost the entire community. Finding a decision, including a public vote to embrace the community's opinion, took Angel Munoz and his CPL Staff several weeks but in the end the statistics favoured Quake 3 quite clearly: This decision was made after the following votes were submitted: The CPL tournament staff - 90% in favor of Quake 3 The CPL world partners - 90% in favor of Quake 3 The CPL 1v1 committee - 85% in favor of Quake 3 The gamers (that voted on the CPL poll) - 80% in favor of Quake 3 As the main reasons for the choice of the older version of the game, the CPL mentioned the better gameplay and the better spectating and live stream options. After this announcement, all players can expect the opening of the signups for CPL Singapore, which will be the first World Tour Stop, and the signups for CPL Winter in Dallas during the next days and weeks.
