The CPL has received numerous comments about the possibility of using Quake 3 (versus Quake 4) during our 2006 World Season.
While there are many factors to consider before committing to any changes, the CPL is seeking feedback from the community about which game it should use during its upcoming season.

There is no point in going back to Quake 3 when WSVG will use Quake 4 and even Quakecon uses Quake 4.

In terms of competing and spectating a FPS duel game, Q3Arena takes the cake. As far as spectators are concerned, I know for the past four years my friends and family were able to tune into GTV and check out games alongside the occasional webcast. In quake 4 , everyone waits for a call from me to tell them the results/news. Quake 4 is a downgrade of an FPS. I think most can agree that between the mods, maps, weapon bugs, sound or lack thereof, and lack of dev support, that Quake 4 is bush league when compared side by side to Quake 3 Arena. I've been quite successful in both games but I defintly would compete in a Quake 3 tourney over a Q4 tourney any day.
We will keep you updated as things unfold.

q3 was developed as an esport-game, only multiplayer.
the focus of q4 is the singleplayer... and the d3-engine is a singleplayer engine... "just" showing great effects @ solo-games but with a 60fps gap...
and another point is the connection
i have a friend who played q3 competitively in germany and he cant play q4 because of his connection, that shows how bad the netcode is...
the d3-engine doesnt have a competitive netcode...
The one thing I have read/seen complaints about with Q4 is the amount of money ("only top3 get money" etc) and tournaments compared to last year with PK. With the CPL Singapore announced and other wsvg events + quakecon coming, I just thought the situation was getting better. To change the game would only mean a worse situation money/tournamentwise. If there are players thinking about already quitting playing because of money, I doubt this would make it any better :P

there are still many new players
if the cpl uses q3 again, there will be many people who will be interested in the game again
by the way the last lans i visited: always more q3-players than q4
@56 it seems that u dont know what i mean, q3 is 6years older than q4 and after those years u could expect, that a new title wouldnt have the same bugs than its forerunner... q4 had much more... and that just shows how raven thinks about the multiplayer...
cooller, fatality, socrates, fox have not glue?
they all say that q3 is the better game !
someone mentioned that link, q3 is still top10
and q4 is far behind, if the cpl would push it again, it could be top5 again
and there are also people that dont have the money, a guy from argentina wrote, that q3 is still played and he nearly doesnt know anyone how plays q4
it would be an opportunity for those countries to show some great play!
rofl: they dont have any glue...
no clue...
