Quake 3 versus Quake 4

By Marcus 'Calypo' Zeug

Angel Munoz, Leader of the Cyberathlete Professional League, has just released a statement in the CPL forum about which game to use for the World Tour season 2006. Many players think that Quake 3 is the better game for competitive gaming, so Munoz decided to start a vote to decide between Quake 3 and 4.

Angel Munoz wrote:
The CPL has received numerous comments about the possibility of using Quake 3 (versus Quake 4) during our 2006 World Season.
While there are many factors to consider before committing to any changes, the CPL is seeking feedback from the community about which game it should use during its upcoming season.

There is no point in going back to Quake 3 when WSVG will use Quake 4 and even Quakecon uses Quake 4.

In terms of competing and spectating a FPS duel game, Q3Arena takes the cake. As far as spectators are concerned, I know for the past four years my friends and family were able to tune into GTV and check out games alongside the occasional webcast. In quake 4 , everyone waits for a call from me to tell them the results/news. Quake 4 is a downgrade of an FPS. I think most can agree that between the mods, maps, weapon bugs, sound or lack thereof, and lack of dev support, that Quake 4 is bush league when compared side by side to Quake 3 Arena. I've been quite successful in both games but I defintly would compete in a Quake 3 tourney over a Q4 tourney any day.
We will keep you updated as things unfold.
