The World Cyber Games (WCG), a worldwide youth festival inaugurated in 2000 that organizes competitions from six different continents, has just announced that it has created a city bidding plan for the 2008 edition of the World Cyber Games. According to the World Cyber Games Committee (WCGC), all applications must be sent by the 20th of May, with the winner being chosen after a vigorous screening process that will evaluate the following aspects: government support, location/financing, facilities, infrastructure, and promotion. Below you will find the official press-release:

Deadline for applications due on May 20, 2006 / Factors such as government support and infrastructure will be reviewed.
The World Cyber Games Committee (WCGC) today announced host city bidding plan for the 2008 World Cyber Games (WCG) Grand Final. According to WCGC, applications would be received by May 20th, and the host city for the WCG 2008 Grand Final will be announced this year after vigorous screening process.

Cities which want to host the WCG Grand Final should submit their propositions which will be evaluated upon a series of criteria including location/financing, facilities, infrastructure, and promotion. In addition, the host city will be required to cooperate with WCGC in order to promote the Grand Final.

Once proposals are received, they will go through a set of processes including documentary screening and on-site due diligence.

WCG introduced host city concept in 2002 when Daejeon, one of the main cities in Korea, has held the WCG 2002 Grand Final successfully. WCG moved its event overseas in 2004 when San Francisco in the U.S. hosted the WCG 2004 Grand Final, and the WCG 2005 Grand Final was held in Singapore attracting worldwide attentions. This year, the WCG 2006 Grand Final will be held October 18th through 22nd at F1 Autodromo, in Monza, Italy, for the first time in Europe. WCG will come back to the U.S. as Seattle will host the WCG 2007 Grand Final after it garnered highest scores among candidate cities such as Cologne of Germany, Montreal of Canada, and Busan of Korea.

As it has been proved that WCG contributes to the development of economy and IT infrastructure in host cities and spreads advanced e-Sport culture through cultural exchanges, competitions among candidate cities are expected to be fierce this year, too.
