CPL Offers Biggest CS First Prize Ever
For several years now prizes for the Counter-Strike tournaments have dropped at CPL Events. SK Sweden were the team to win the biggest first prize at a CPL Event by winning $60,000 at the CPL Summer 2003 event. The CPL however had already announced a huge prizepurse of $200,000 for the CPL Summer Quake 4 tournament and now they also have announced the CPL Summer CS 1.6 prizepurse. With a record-breaking total of $300,000 just for the CS event, 256 teams will be competing for the amazing first prize worth $90,000. With the growth of ESWC and WEG one of the oldest tournament organisers couldn't stay behind and have once again regained the throne. I'm sure this will send a fresh wave through the Counter-Strike scene which had been hit by inactiveness because most top players couldn't motivate themselves anymore to put in the practice needed. With these kind of prizes up for grabs we might be seeing more CS players putting in the countless hours in order to try and became the best. Keep on reading for the full press release by The CPL.
The CPL held its first Counter-Strike tournament five years ago, and since then over XX Counter-Strike gamers have participated in the CPL tournaments. In fact, the CPL has offered over $1,000,000 in cash prizes for Counter-Strike tournaments alone, holding the world record in cash prizes for this game.
Today, the CPL announced that once again it is raising the bar by introducing the largest Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament ever. 256 teams from across the globe will compete at the CPL Summer Event for a record-breaking $300,000.
Cash prizes will be offered to 64 teams, with a top prize of $90,000 for the winning team.
BYOC and competitor admission fee is $100 per person until January 1, 2006, and then increases to $125. Spectator passes are $25 per person. Teams can immediately register online at www.thecpl.com/register/.
The CPL summer event will also host a 2,000-person BYOC area.
A total of 1,500 rooms have been blocked at the Gaylord Texan Resort for attendees of this event. The discount rate will be $125 single/double and $129 triple/quadruple. Reservation information will be released next week.
