An addiction or a replacement..

Counter-strike, the worlds leading multiplayer game since approximately... 4 years?
I heard this from alot of other people, theres nothing like it.. At one moment you despise CS, and one the other moment you seem to enjoy it pretty much.
But theres nothing like counterstrike. Since it has been one of the 1st multiplayer game which became so very popular, alot of people "grew" up with it. It kind of became the gaming standard, and you compary almost any (fps)game to it.
Whilst playing another game, for example a fairly new one, you seem to miss the elements counterstrike has, and the new one doesn't.
While the new game actually is much better, and you can have lots of fun playing it, you will most likely uninstall the new game and go back to cs for a while unawarily.
To the point:
Would this mean Counter-Strike is an addiction, or is it just the advantage it has with a large community and all that makes people stick with it, leaving new/other games where they are..?
Anyway, thanks for atleast reading what i had to say, and this is just from my/our point of view.
