Review of the Razer Lachesis laser mouse
Razer Lachesis
All right here is the review of the Razer Lachesis. This mouse is on sale at 80-89 Canadian dollar at future shop or at Best buy. I got it for 40 dollars which is half the normal price so I am not going to say anything bad for the price I got it.
Laser v/s Optical
Honestly, I am not a great fan of Laser mouse since they are not that big of a jump over the optical mouse. The top of the grade optical mouse rivals the performance of the laser on a good gaming surface. But I simply could not resist the urge of owning a laser mouse for once. After all this is the one of the latest laser mouse on the market.
Description
This is a 4000 dpi laser mouse, developed for gamers by gamers. The mouse comes with a pretty nice packaging: you get some Razer stickers, the cd driver, the manual for users and a pamphlet showing the other Razer products. Personally, I like the Razer sticker and the packaging is way better than those offered by Rival firms.
Since Razer is obsessed with Snakes, the Lachesis has the frontal shape of a Viper snake. It just looks cool when seen from that angle, and that is good for the marketing of the product. Lachesis is the largest pit viper and vipers are supposed to prey on rodents like mouse. Lachesis is a good name for such a mouse in my opinion and it sounds cool.
The mouse is ambidextrous which means that it is suited for lefties and righties unlike the mx518 and the MS3.0. The coating of the mouse looks like it is rubber or silicone and it sure avoids slipping especially for those people with sweaty hands. There are two side buttons on each side and two just below the mouse wheel. The two buttons just below the mouse wheel are for dpi adjusting. One of the features of the mouse is that the razer logo starts blinking as soon as you plugged the mouse and the mouse wheel takes that blue color (depending on the color of the mouse you bought).
The bottom of the mouse is made with three Teflon feet which ensure a better gliding experience. There is also a protective film to avoid any scratching on the mirror like bottom of the mouse, however expect some scratches as soon as you remove the protective film. There is also a profile button for switching profiles during gaming sessions.
Testing the mouse
As soon as I plugged the mouse in, it took 3-5 minutes for the mouse to be fully operative. As expected the logo and the mouse wheel starts turning blue which is pretty cool especially while gaming in the dark.
First of all, I will try playing without any drivers installed which will not include the features like choosing your own dpi and you can only play with default buttons. The first thing I noticed is that the 4000dpi is too sensitive. I had to change all my counter strike settings to get an enjoyable fragging session. Unless you are a very high sensitive gamer, without configuring the mouse the game is simply unplayable.
Now let us install that nice razer driver that comes along with the mouse. First of all, I have to say that the driver looks pretty easy to use, but if you do not know anything about the technical terms like dpi, X and Y axis and configuring mouse buttons, there’s a good chance of you getting lost. Changing the settings and creating the profiles is all pure preference so I am not going to comment what is best. One nice feature of the driver is that it allows you to have 5dpi settings stored on the mouse. The settings will be saved on the on board memory therefore you can play with those settings on any computer.
Playing with the mouse
I am a Counter strike fan so I will not test this product outside of Counter Strike. I set my Lachesis so that I can play with different dpi ingame as well as having profiles. The 5 different dpi I chose were 375, 825, 1225, 1675 and 2000 dpi. Those allowed me to play low sensitivity and high sensitivity. I always leave the normal windows sensitivity or use one notch below to avoid some bad movements while playing. I am more of a low sens gamer who likes to wrestle the hand on the mouse pad rather than doing slight movements. I do not mind playing at all levels of sensitivity because it is worth trying ever kind of styles to see what fits you best.
Since this mouse has a pretty unusual shape, you will need some time to get used to it. And one of the things I noticed during the two week period of testing is that learning curve is quite steep. That is because I am a gamer with an hybrid way of gripping the mouse: my fingers are claw style but I use palm movements. You might not get the same problems I do if you have a different especially if you are a typical claw style player.
Using the Lachesis at 375 dpi (MS3.0 and MS1.1 style)
Simply not for me, I cannot use low sens at all with this mouse. The way the mouse is built does not help it; I cannot play very low sensitivity. I tried doing it but after playing for a while your hands get tired and you will only hurt yourself.
Using it at a medium sensitivity at 875 dpi
Well the good thing is that this is definitely better since I started getting those headshots. That is because I do not have to grab the whole mouse for playing at this level of sensitivity. My grip style is more suitable for that. There is practically no frame skip and the crosshair went exactly where I wanted. I felt like calling me the god awper at that level because the flicking was so accurate. But at this level of dpi that is in the range of the MX518 and some A4tech mouse, I am not going to say engine matters but the shape of the mouse does.
Using the 1275 dpi
Same as 875 dpi but I felt like decreasing my sensitivity to keep the same level as before. Still a nice experience.
Using the 1675 dpi
Now it starts getting serious since that level of dpi is not offered by a lot of mouse. Therefore I needed to try that level of dpi. Change of style, I switched to high sens using that resolution. I moved the sensitivity to 1 and the mouse felt good. By the way please remove mouse acceleration because we do not need that shit now that we have a mouse that can go high speed without having to tweak it. I will recommend adding the noforce commands. It has been a long time since I last played CS on a high sens, and it just felt good to be back there. No need to move the mouse frenetically as it is the case for low sens gaming. Playing DM servers felt very good and the aiming was acceptable.
Using 2000dpi and above
Really not for me pals but I guess that some of you can go on that path. I have not noticed any out of this world stuff but changing to claw style so loved by those high sens gamers was not that bad. If you play game without the recoil we have in Counter Strike, you might love this mouse but unfortunately I do not play any Quake or Unreal. The mouse is so light that claw players will find it nice.
The aftermath of 2 weeks of playing
The bottom of the mouse had some scratches on the mirror surface. The Teflon feet started to get a little bit roughed up but 2 weeks of gaming is not enough to ruin them. I use the mouse on a mouse feet killing surface like the Func 1030. The glide factor remains good on any cloth surface since they are not as much of a killer as the hard and rough surfaces. I will recommend getting a stock of mouse skatez to ensure that you always feel the glide is smooth.
The side buttons are also pretty hard to press on and if you do not have a certain grip style it might be useless while gaming. But then again it is pure preference; therefore I am not going to comment a lot on it.
I will recommend using a rough surface like the Razer destructor, Steelpad S&S and the Func rough surface. This is because that mouse is made for high sens gamers and using a clothpad does not give the same control you want on the mouse that the rough surface does. I will get the destructor soon and I will you some further feedback. Note that the laser sensor works just as well on a wooden surface but you will not appreciate the glide factor.
Pros
1. Laser sensor works properly
2. Good gliding on any surface.
3. Nice design with the glowing light
4. Good accuracy and no frame skipping
5. Mouse is ambidextrous
6. Excellent for high sens gamers
7. On board memory allows the creation of profiles
Cons
1. Mouse is ambidextrous sometimes it can be a double-edge sword
2. Not for a low sens gamer
3. High price and the additional features over the other mouse are not applicable for CS
Rating
I will say I like this Laser mouse over the other ones that I have used because it works fine and there is no frame skipping. But for playing CS, no thank you I will rather stick with and MX518, the g1 and the MS 3.0. Aiming feels great but aiming is not everything in CS because you have to control recoil. The cons with the mouse outside of the price are questionable and it will depend on the user’s point of view. You still have the Razer Mamba coming out so I’d rather not give it a perfect score for now.
I will give this mouse a 9.3 because the product is excellent but a review is useless if everything is perfect.

Razer diamondback

Analysis of the diamondbacl
All right that's my complete review of the Razer diamondback(1st generation lightning plasma mouse).

Intro

Voila Voila.........first mouse I bought in Canada. It was on a cut price of $39 at bestbuy which was $10-12 less than the normal price. There was only the blue one left not that I wanted some other colors. After getting some reward points on my account, I took the bus to the University where I could barely resist the temptation of unpackaging it.

The Package

The Diamondback came in the green box which is typical of Razer. The box is way better looking than the Intelli 3.0 packaging and the inside looks more refined and stylistic. You will probably like it a lot if you like using the box to move from lan to lan. The mouse comes with the driver cd and the manual.

Pros :
Nice packaging
Easy to put your mouse inside and carry it to lans.

Cons
Driver is outdated and they speak too much thrash on the box.

Testing it

The diamondback is so sexy when you plug it in. Imagine some blue light in those dark university lecture rooms. I definitely like the blue light coming out.

The mousefeet are really something new, that was a revolution at the time this mouse was launched on the market. This is definitely an upgrade on the old MS 3.0 and the MX 510. However if you use some mousepad made of hard plastic or steel, it is preferable to order or have some extra mouse feet in supply to avoid any let downs. Hey mouse feet get worn out easily.
I am not going to talk about engines or whatever because I am simply not a tester. However rest assured because from reliable sources I can confirm that the dpi of the mouse(default) is really 1600dpi. The mouse does not malfunction even with high speeds movements.
I am mainly a counter strike player so it's no surprise i'm gonna test this toy on Counter Strike 1.6 and CS:Zero. Since I am a low sens user, I'd say that playing with the diamondback was like a big change.(default dpi is twice of my old g1). I felt a bit bizarre at first because I felt like I just played CS ala Quake style. I found it hard to aim at first but i guessed that was the change in dpi which is the problem. I tried desperately getting back to a lower sens that is playable, this without making use of the driver but it was vain.(I already use noforce commands). If you can't play around then this mouse is not for the fellow low sens players.
Exit the cloth pad and welcome the func hard plastic mousepad. Func is ideal for high sens gamers since it allows for better movement(rough side). There I felt way better, I switched back to the old times where I was like using 4.0 sensitivity without the noforce commandes. I really had some good first times with the Ak and the deagles but getting a good recoil was pretty hard. This mouse has the shape of a low sens mouse with the the ability of a high sens mouse. This means the mouse is way to small to get the feeling of a good mx510,mx518 or the ms3.0.
Lateral movements are alrite but the vertical movements really sucked a lot from what I've observed. The buttons are also a real joke, they're too sensitive. I'd recommend you to unbind them, but again a lot of my fellow gamers like side buttons.
Now let's install the driver and try the mouse. Haha guess what there's probably a newer version of the driver software on the net so download it rather than take it from the CD. At the time the features of the software were probably revolutionary because it offers control of X & Y axis, sensitivity of the mouse and the choice between dpi(400 & 1600). The software doesn't really work as well as the one for the latest razer mice.i tried configurating the mouse using the software but i don't really have the feeling it works. The only thing i say really worked was that the razer did a good job setting up the windows sensitivity.

Conclusion

Pros

Price is pretty affordable compared to the other razer products.
Nice packaging and mousefeet compared with a sexy design.
Good performance of the optical engine(its the same as the mx51 series)

Cons

Mice is not perfect if you know that this mouse has an upgraded version(the 3G version).
Driver independency is laughable.
Side buttons are gay.
If lowering the dpi was easier, I'd take this mouse for the low sens gaming however this is not the case and it's too slow to have a good high sens gaming.

Rating : 8/10

Endnotes
If you want similar mouse, better price and same performance except for the dpi, buy yourself the logitech g-1 if you can get one. G-1 is perfect for low sens gamers and the optical engine is the same except for the dpi thing. But 800 dpi is already an upgrade on ms3.0 or ms1.1.

Guessing the new razer mouse

Me and the razerzone
I'm still kinda pissed the Razer guys have not yet shipped my orders......nearly a month. I emailed them to ask why they were taking so long to ship the messenger bag and the destructor special edition. They replied that the pad was still on preorder and they'll ship it soon.
Now here's the whole story. When i ordered, it was clearly shown and it is still shown that the mousepad will be distributed on the 17th of December. So I really felt uncomfortable about that and I emailed them how much it was unpleasant to see that they're using misleading ads to sell that pad and how they ruined my christmas holidays. And the idiot response again........Sorry item is on preorder and we will ship it soon.
Well i guess i'd be better served flying a kite round the street corner. If i don't get the swagpack im gonna sue them for misleading practices.

I'm not gonna lie.......I simply guessed the name of the new Razer mouse........the Mamba. I did my own research bout snakes since every razer mouse is named after a snake. There were better names out there on the taxonomy list than the mamba. Examples are the nasicornis, Agkistrodon, bothrops and the Trimeresurus. The new mouse features are that it can be turned into corded and uncorded mouse pretty easily which is kinda intriguing. From what i saw is that the mouse has 5760 dpi(who cares about that much except for those nerdy people) and it has a better shape than the lachesis.

Win the new Mamba by showing us how u destroy your mouse for the new mamba.

I'd be happy to get my actor suit on and make a footage of it but i'm lacking a proper cameraman and the only mice i keep are the diamondback, the intelli 3.0 and the lachesis. Hell no!!
I'm not gonna destroy any of them for the sake of a chance in a million. Not that i'm not interested but I worked hard for those, and had to watch flyers every single week to get a good deal.
Next to me is my cousin's old ugly mouse but i seriously think that is gonna help any movie :D. It's too ugly xD.

Mouse review

Hello everyone, this is my first blog so i had nothing better than reviewing the 3 beasts sitting on my desk. I might create a better review in the future.

The Lachesis, the diamondback and the Intelli 3.0.

Razer Lachesis Price = $80-89

Let's start with the Lachesis.......a very expensive mouse which I bought for half the normal price at $45. I don't really have any doubt concerning the mouse's quality since 4000dpi = practically no frame skipping. 2nd best looking mouse out of the three. The possibility of creating profiles within the mouse is quite simply a big plus. Now speaking of gaming with the mouse, you'll find that this mouse is much more for claw-type players rather than palm-type. This is probably because Razer seems obssesed with snakes.(just look simply look at the front of the mouse). If you are a low sens gamer then that mouse is not for you, I had to move from low to medium ever since i use it. The presence of mouse glidez is a big plus but just make sure you have some extra if you are using hard plastic or metal mouse pads. But you will probably need some time before getting used to this mouse I needed at least 2 weeks to get those headshots I normally do in Counter.

Rating 9.1/10

Razer Diamondback Price 40 dollars

Again nice packaging from Razer but no razer sticker. The mouse's dpi is 1600 dpi but there is something called on the fly sensitivity that allows you to switch dpi during the game. But I've seen much better in terms of on-the-fly sensitivity. This is probably the coolest mouse I've ever seen, take it at night to one of those lecture rooms at university and let it shine for you. However I am very critical of this mouse in terms of shape, It needs to be bigger and the side buttons are a real joke. I had to unbind them all to play CS. This is not for low sens gamer but more for the high-medium or high sens gamer. But that mouse is simply too small for such kind of playing, I prefer big mouse for high sens and smaller ones for low sens. This is pure preference so you might think otherwise. I also noted some frame skips, but otherwise this mouse is ok for me.

Rating = 7.7/10

Intelli 3.0 Price = $35

Finally the mouse most cs gamers use, so much that Microsoft had to start producing them again.(The series was discontinued) Intelli 3.0's packaging is horrible. Simply imagine Cinderella before midnight and after midnight and you'll notice how it looks like thrash compared to the Razer's packaging. I just threw the box away within a week of buying the mouse. That mouse is probably suitable for all kind of sensitivity because the big shape of the mouse allows for high sens and the low dpi gives place to good low sens gaming.
I aim better with this mouse more because of the shape of the mouse rather than the optical engine. If you are CS only then this mouse is for you. Unless you get the steelseries intelli i'd say this mouse is dumb but it offers you good performance for Counter Strike.

Rating = 8.7 / 10.
