About Sweden
I read on a website (www.sweden.se) which said the following:
- Sweden has gone from a farmer, poor country very fast. It took us about 3 generation to go from a third world country to one of the most advanced nations in the world.
- Swedes are charactarized (real) as nationalistic, proud and friendly.
- Swedes are charactarized (false) as 100% blonde, drunken suiciders and middle classes.
Other facts about Sweden which is discovered at various places:
- In 1870-1890, Sweden had 2,2 million inhabitants. Now, 130 years later, the population has grown with about 450%.
We are nowadays about 9-10 million.
- Most Swedes at the age of 15-20 has a grandfather/grandmother who lived through the old farmer era. Nowadays, peoples grandparents are modern cityfolks.
- Swedish language is known for borrowing words from other languages such as Acceptera (accept), existera (exist), lunch, rival, shampoo etc etc.
But words other languages has borrowed from Swedish is words like Moped, Lingon, Smorgasbord and sloyd (slöjd).
- The worlds richest man is Swedish. Ingvar kamprad, the founder of IKEA. Yes, he is richer than Bill Gates. Not very much, but the procentages are more for Mr Kamprad.
- Sweden still have big influence in United States.
Places like New Sweden, Maine, Little Sweden(Lindsborg), Illinois, and Sweden, Ohio.
There is over 15,000 places with Scandinavian names in the United states.
- Swedens capital Stockholm has the least toxic outlet of gas in the entire world, accompanied with the Icelandic capital.
- Norway and denmarks population together equals Swedens.
- Sweden is almost twice as big as Germany in size, but our population covers just about 10%-15% of the German.
Upper and Lower class - In life
Some people who are upper class, higher class, you call it what you want, have a tendency to look down on people with lower standards.
If you don't know what I mean:
Upper class = rich people.
Lower class = commoners.
The difference is that Rich people, aka NOBLE, have a tendency to talk difference, look difference, look at people differencely, act different, you know the drill.
But how is it to mix both kinds in a school class?
Well, ask me. I have 2 "noble" girls in my class, and I'm about to go crazy. They get mad when people laugh, and to fix it, they say stuff like: "Silence, let miss finish class for us."
It's aweful sometimes. But I guess I'll understand them some day.
Erasing of a language
Some people think that it's fair to just vote away their own language, to then install english in that country.
I don't think that is right. Actually, it's not our right to destroy a language, nor to make it more related to another. Right, we are the only one capable of it, and it's our language. But it's a language that out ancestors built up, and which we use.
It was a post in the newspapers not long ago about Swedes using too much english when they speak to eachother.
I asked my friends what they would say if they would make a public vote about removing Swedish and install English in our country instead, and one of my friends actually said "I would vote yes.".
Man, I couldn't believe my ears. He then said: "Swedish sure is beautiful, but what need do we have of it?"
Sure, it would make it easier if we spoke English as first language, right. But it's a LANGUAGE! Languages are blessed, it's like a culture. What if japan didn't have those special lamps, or the samurais? It wouldn't be as fascinating as it is today.
In short, languages are blessed and they need to be kept whole as they were made to be spoken. It's not our right to erase a language, nor will it ever be.
