LFS Dutch Championship Race 1

A bit late, but better late then never they say.
I wasn't able to provide news about the new season in the Dutch Championships for http://www.liveforspeed.com]Live for Speed[/url].
This was because I was going to get engaged with my girlfriend ;)
The season started again Thursday, September 6th. And I'm going to post a small capture of what happened during my race and the standings etc.
The track we drove was on Fern Bay Green with the FXO/RB4/XRT cars. 3 different cars and I drove the FXO. Which is a front wheel driven car. I love front wheel drives :)
Qualification was ok. I could get a good start and got a nice clean track in front of me. No slower drivers that were in my path. However I couldn't get the time I was able to do in my warm-up offline. Still a nice 7th starting spot out of 28 Drivers that showed up.
The start...damn.. I was even nervous and for what. I had plenty of practice and experience. But still.. It's always nice to feel the good old adrenaline rushing through your blood.
I was slighty better from my start then the guy in #6 position. But I couldn't get him before the terrifying chicane where only the most courages of all dares to drive through it with 155km/h and only room for 1 car. So I decided to wait it out and get in his slipstream.
Also I knew that with my setup the car would be driving like on ice for the first 3 laps or so. But after that I could go flat-out and the tyres would have a nice temperature for maximum grip.
So with the tyres on temperature I figured to push it and try to pass this guy. Wrong...
In the last turn before start/finish I touched the rails and my car slammed in the wall.
Oh oh.. Damage on the suspension. But I wanted to feel the car how it reacted to see if I could try to continue.
This would soon proof I could hardly make left turns. So only option left was to take a pitstop.
There I went in the pit. I could only watch in terror how I went from 7th position down to 17th.
After a quick 7.8 second pit I pushed down the throttle in anger. OH NO!! I forgot this car has no pit limiter so I exceeded the pitlane max. speed. :(
A drive-through penalty was awarded on my behalf.
Race-over I figured. But I never give up. So I went for the penalty and took my drive-through. Current position: 23th.
Ah well. I still wanted to get the points for the championship. So only option left was maximum attack. Do or die.
1 by 1 I started to overtake them in this 46 lap race. It was actually going smooth again. I could only see the cars I overtook disappear in my rear view mirror as I was going strong until I got to the point where I was on 14th place.
I had this XRT car in front of me. Nice car...But no match for my fine tuned FXO. But for some reason this driver got some motivation to race even faster when I showed up in his rearview. He started to drive faster and I really needed to get everything I got out of the closet to pass this guy. For 1 full lap I was stuck on his bumper.
Then it happened.. He made a mistake so I put my car next to his. Side by side we were heading towards a turn and I knew I was getting a bit short. So I touched my brakes and for some unfortunate reason we touched and he crashed in the wall. I had to appoligise for that after the race. But he thought the same as me. It was cleared as a racing accident.
However.. I'm a racer and there was not much time for me to think about it as the chicane was coming again. And that needs my full concentration.
At that point I was 13th and going for it again. 10 laps left and in those laps I was able to overtake another 6 guys. With that result I managed to still finish in a 7th position. The same as where I started :)
