The year 2005 is now over and man, we saw a lot! The World Tour, Quake 4, 3 WEG seasons, a great ESWC and a nice WCG. Many exciting games have been played in different games, with the return of Quake back on the eSport horizon. It was truly a great year for eSports!
With the beginning of 2006 many people start to think about what will happen and how big our "movement" will become. Most of the thoughts follow this formula: better and bigger sponsors -> more money -> eSport gets bigger. While I agree that there is some truth in this, I don't like the implication of it. Because this basically means, that competitve gaming has grown more because of the money put into it than anything else.
I rather like to think, that eSport has gotten bigger because of the dedication everybody involved has put into it and because of the fun everybody has, working in the business or playing in the different leagues/ tournaments. It is my believe, that without dedication and fun behind CPL, WCG, SK-Gaming or rushed.de all the money would mean nothing. It is the people behind who make everything grow every day and every year.
With these words, let's have fun and dedicate ourselves for the next year and the years to come to make eSport grow bigger and bigger!
